3 Unique Roller Coaster Style Attractions in the Smoky Mountains
If you have already been to Dollywood and wondering if there are some additional coaster style rides in the Smokies, you are in luck! Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are home to some of the most unique roller coasters and thrill rides in the USA, giving you plenty of bragging rights to your friends back home! Here are 3 unique roller coaster style attractions in the Smoky Mountains that you need to experience:
1. Flying Ox at Lumberjack Park
One of the most unique roller coaster style attractions in the Smoky Mountains is the Flying Ox at Lumberjack Park! This awesome ride combines the elements of a zipline and a coaster for a thrilling experience you just won’t find anywhere else in the world! The attraction features single seats that are suspended from an overhead track, allowing you to glide high above Lumberjack Park. The Flying Ox is included as part of your paid admission into the park, where you can also enjoy several other activities ranging from a netted obstacle course to a tower with 4 jump elements.
2. Rail Runner at Anakeesta
Another one of the unique roller coaster style attractions in the Smoky Mountains is the Rail Runner at Anakeesta! While you may have experienced some of the other exciting mountain coasters throughout the Smokies, the Rail Runner is the first one in the USA to feature a single rail track. Another thing that makes this ride a bit different is you start with the downhill portion and ride the lift back to the top, rather than starting with the lift. You control the speed of your sled down the mountain, so release the brake to race through 1,600 feet of downhill twists and turns while reaching speeds up to 25 miles per hour!
3. Laser Gun Coaster at Rowdy Bear Ridge
The Laser Gun Coaster at Rowdy Bear Ridge is North America’s first alpine flyer coaster and features two seats so you can sit right next to your riding partner! This one-of-a-kind coaster swings, dips, and soars through the Ridge of Rowdy Bear, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the track. As if that doesn’t sound cool enough, laser guns have been added to the ride to make things even more interesting! See if you have what it takes to hit the targets while swinging through the air! The Laser Gun Coaster operates both during the day and at night, and riders must be at least 40 inches tall to participate.
